Pretty nice

Things are pretty nice right now. I got a B on my French test! I’m so happy! And it’s not like a borderline B either, it’s an 85! w00t! The women in film class is going well to. We watched Antonia’s Line last week and the week before that we watched North Country. Still not sure what the final project is going to be, but I guess we’ll get there when we get there. Computer as Medium is… well… it’s there. I guess that’s about all there is to it.

Rob got his new laptop. It looks exactly like mine, except mine’s better. His is still nice of course. He’s being really nice since he got back. He bought me two DVDs, the second volume of Mushishi and the original OVA that Mononoke is based off of, Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales: BakeNeko. I’m pretty excited to watch them! He says he’s trying to rack up some good karma with me.

So, I watched the English dub of Mushishi and I have to say, they did pretty well when choosing the voice actors. Usually the voice actor doesn’t feel right in the part. Or they did the voice of a different character in a different anime and it just doesn’t seem right when they do the new character. Or, what is most often the case, they just can’t get in the groove of the character and they just sound wrong. This was the case with Paradise Kiss when I tried to watch the English dub. But for Mushishi, it seems like they either put a lot of thought into who should do Ginko’s voice, or they just got lucky. I really don’t have a preference as to subs or dubs (omfg!11!!), as long as the voice fits the character and is done well, that’s the one I’ll prefer. They really need to get some new people into anime voice acting, it’s the same people over and over and over. Especially if it’s the main characters. Rob and I attended a voice acting panel at a convention, and learned just how they do the dubbing. Essentially they just throw the actor into the sound booth with the script and say “Oh, in this scene you’re angry. Go!” They get very little back story or time to get to know the script or the characters. That’s why sometimes the dubs sound like such crap.

2012

I visited my grandparents on Thurs, my grandpa was having issues with his computer. The main issue fixed itself before I got there, so it became more of a social lunch visit. But while we started to talk about the end of the world, which my grandpa is convinced is going to happen in 2012. He told me to live it up, go clubbing and have as much fun as I can before the world ends. It seems like all signs are pointing to the world ending in my lifetime. Guess we’ll just wait and see. Make sure you don’t join any cults.

I dyed my hair. It came out a little lighter than I would have liked, but it looks ok. I’m sure Rob will like it, he likes red heads. I want to get my hair cut again, I really liked it short.

I guess that’s all for now. It’s been a lazy boring weekend. Oh, I did buy these for myself. I’ve been wanting those shoes for a long time, and figured this was as good a time as any to buy them. Hopefully they’ll get here soon.

Kinda boring

Things are kinda boring. It’s been classes and then work from about 9-5 everyday. Then there’s projects to do and papers to write. Computer as Medium is becoming constantly disappointing. We have to make a fake movie poster. Now, this poster is actual poster size, 2×3 feet and 300 DPI. Meaning a HUGE file. I kinda just want to MSPaint it and make it a joke poster. But no, I can’t bring myself to actually turn in something like that, no matter how much I want to.

I’m missing Rob. He’s like the only person I really talk to. Of course I talk with the guys and like hanging out with them. But I can talk to Rob about anything, and I’m sure there are things I could talk about that would bore or gross out the guys. I’m not really good on the phone, so talking to Rob that way doesn’t work very well. He doesn’t have regular access to a computer at his place, so I can’t really talk to him online. Oh well, I’ll just wait till he gets back.

My dad asked me a few days ago if I still felt like I was in a box. I can say that I no longer feel like that at all. I love living with the guys. I’m so much happier and more relaxed than at that time. Of course I’m still dealing with stress, but that’s the usual day to day stuff. I feel comfortable in the new house, settled in and happy.
