Pretty nice

Things are pretty nice right now. I got a B on my French test! I’m so happy! And it’s not like a borderline B either, it’s an 85! w00t! The women in film class is going well to. We watched Antonia’s Line last week and the week before that we watched North Country. Still not sure what the final project is going to be, but I guess we’ll get there when we get there. Computer as Medium is… well… it’s there. I guess that’s about all there is to it.

Rob got his new laptop. It looks exactly like mine, except mine’s better. His is still nice of course. He’s being really nice since he got back. He bought me two DVDs, the second volume of Mushishi and the original OVA that Mononoke is based off of, Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales: BakeNeko. I’m pretty excited to watch them! He says he’s trying to rack up some good karma with me.

So, I watched the English dub of Mushishi and I have to say, they did pretty well when choosing the voice actors. Usually the voice actor doesn’t feel right in the part. Or they did the voice of a different character in a different anime and it just doesn’t seem right when they do the new character. Or, what is most often the case, they just can’t get in the groove of the character and they just sound wrong. This was the case with Paradise Kiss when I tried to watch the English dub. But for Mushishi, it seems like they either put a lot of thought into who should do Ginko’s voice, or they just got lucky. I really don’t have a preference as to subs or dubs (omfg!11!!), as long as the voice fits the character and is done well, that’s the one I’ll prefer. They really need to get some new people into anime voice acting, it’s the same people over and over and over. Especially if it’s the main characters. Rob and I attended a voice acting panel at a convention, and learned just how they do the dubbing. Essentially they just throw the actor into the sound booth with the script and say “Oh, in this scene you’re angry. Go!” They get very little back story or time to get to know the script or the characters. That’s why sometimes the dubs sound like such crap.

This Weekend

So, after that cathartic post, I’m feeling a little better. I’ve been so negative over the past few days. I think it’s having to go back to being so close to people all the time. I’ve pretty much spent the whole summer in my office at work or at home with Rob. Not much socializing. But I never was good with people to begin with.

This weekend I’ll be going home with Rob. We’ve got to pick up his car and I’d like to get my car looked at. I think it needs a tune up. Hopefully everything will go nicely. I don’t know when we’ll be getting back.

I think I’m going to make some reusable grocery bags. I asked grama to make me some, but I think she’s forgotten. And I don’t want to call her up and be like “Hi, yeah, have you done that stuff for me? Cause that’s the only reason I’d call you, to get stuff.” because I’m not like that. So, I’ll just go through my fabric and see what I can use. I think I have some brown Japanese print stuff that would work. Just need to get a lining material. Or maybe I’ll splurge and get some really cute fabric with polka dots. Or maybe not, since I’d like the guys to use them. I’m not sure how they’d feel pulling out pink and purple polka dotted grocery bags. XD

I think I messed up on my time sheets at work. I cannot remember for the life of me what I put for Wed and Thurs on the paperwork. I came in today for 5 hours, to make up anytime I may have forgotten.

Parents back from Yellowstone

Parents at Old Faithful I didn’t write about my parents going to Yellowstone this past week because my sister was home alone. Anyway, they got back yesterday evening. They were gone for about a week. They pretty much retraced the steps from our last Yellowstone trip, but with a few differences. They stayed at Cody first, then went to Yellowstone and then back to Cody. I haven’t heard the specifics of their trip yet, hopefully they’ll email or call me after they’ve rested a little. But see that picture? The park service has a webcam on Old Faithful geyser. My mom knew about this before they went, so the plan was that they would call my sister and me when they got there and we could see them on the webcam. Old Faithful is like the only place in the whole park that you can get cell phone signal. So, they called, I watched and took screen shots.

Rob should be getting back today around noon. It’ll be nice to see him! I wonder when or if we’ll do something nice for our anniversary. I wish he was a little more romantic. He is, of course, loving and wonderful. But when it comes to thinking of romantic things to do he draws a blank. I think it’s more of a fear of letting me down or something.

I really need to get some new clothes. I went though my wardrobe and it’s looking pathetic. When Kelse was here I wanted to buy some “business professional” clothes, but everything was ugly and not my style. I did get some nice things, but they were mostly shirts. I need to get some nice heels, nice flats, slacks, a nice skirt I can wear with tights, and some nice shirts. I just sort of put nice in front of everything there didn’t I? Well, nice means moderately expensive, elegant, clean design, and flattering colors. I can deal with the moderately expensive, I want to build up a good basic wardrobe. Unfortunately elegant, clean design and flattering colors are few and far between with the current trends in clothing. At least where I shop, which is the mall. Right now everything is ugly day-glow 80’s colors or hideous burnt 70’s colors. Maybe I’ll take Rob with me and we can venture into the fancy shops together.
